Joe's sister Kylie Hawkins wrote: "Love u Joe missing u. Wish u cud see all these lovely msgs, u were loved and cared about by so many people I'm broken."

Joe was a dad to a young daughter Kimi and had several brothers and sisters. His mum Christine has been involved in the Cashes Green community promoting youth activities.

Joe was a friend to Luke Harrison, also known by the surname Griffin, who died in June on a football trip to Newquay. Many friends said on Facebook they imagined the two having fun in heaven together.

Police said they are treating Joe's death as non-suspicious after being called by a member of the public who found his body near Hillcrest Road in Stroud at 8.50pm.

Friend Kathy Day said: "I still can't believe ur gone it doesn't feel real, it's like I'm stuck in a horrible nytmare!"

Kylie Hynd added: "Sleep easy Joe Louis Hawkins. So many memories growing up with you and from school and seeing your cheeky smile."

On his Facebook page, dozens of messages in his memory have been posted and a dedicated group, **R.I.P Joe Louis Hawkins**, has also been set up.

Friend Katy Parsons said: "R.I.P Joe you'll be missed by soo many, cant believe you're gone but one thing's for sure you will never be forgotten :). My thoughts are with all your family, in so much shock sleep tight Joe xxxxxxxx."

Christopher Howe said: "Sad times and big love to everyone who knew Joe. Such a young life and such potential, why do the best people always leave us so soon."

Katie Rebecca Chambers said he supported her through the death of a friend and illness in her family.

"You supported my whole family and I never really got the chance to say thank you."

Stella Rose Watts said: "Was such a caring lad. Always said he'd be there if I ever needed a chat. Going to be greatly missed xx."

Gloucestershire Coroner's Office has been informed of his death by police and an inquest is expected to be opened soon.
