NIGEL TWISTON-DAVIES is targeting major races over jumps after dominating the second day of the Showcase meeting at Cheltenham.

The Naunton trainer took centre stage when winning three races in a row on Saturday's card with Diablo, Leamington Lad and Ballyfitz at combined odds of 194-1.

He now hopes the best horses among his star-studded team can continue the stable's good start to the season in some of the sport's feature events.

Ollie Magern and Knowhere, officially the best horses at Grange Hill Farm last season, are being aimed at two of the most high-profile races of the season.

Ollie Magern will attempt to become the first horse to win the Charlie Hall Chase three times at Wetherby on Saturday week, while Knowhere could line up at Aintree this weekend in preparation for the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Newbury on November 29.

"He could run in the Paddy Power Gold Cup (at Cheltenham on November 15), but the Hennessy is more likely," said Twiston-Davies.

One-time leading Festival hope Khyber Kim, who joined from Nicky Henderson's yard in the summer, is set to make his debut for Twiston-Davies in the Gerry Fielden Hurdle at Newbury on Hennessy day.

Diablo, potentially one of the best horses in the yard, could head back to Prestbury Park next month after powering clear under David England to land the Mick Fitzgerald Novices' Hurdle in the colours of leading owner Raymond Mould, who lives in Wormington.

Twiston-Davies said: "He's a lovely horse and there's a three-mile novice hurdle for him at the Open meeting.

"He's only been beaten once since we've had him."

England rode Diablo because stable jockey Paddy Brennan chose to partner Strong Rebel, who was brought down when challenging, but got up unhurt.

The Kineton jockey said: "He travelled beautifully for me. I was very pleased with the way he jumped and he's a chaser in the making."

England underlined why he is regarded as one of the top young jockeys in the country when regaining the lead on Leamington Lad in the closing stages to win Cheltenham Business Club Conditional Jockeys' Hurdle.

Ballyfitz gained valuable experience of the Cheltenham fences when winning the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Novices' Chase easily under Brennan.

Having won the Pertemps Hurdle Final at the Cheltenham Festival in March, it would be no surprise to see him heading back to the showpiece meeting for a big novice chase.
