Veterans tennis gets Olympic boost in county
TOP-LEVEL veterans tennis is coming to Cheltenham – thanks to the Olympics.
Senior British players usually get the chance to play their national grasscourt championships at Wimbledon in August but this year the venue has moved because the All England Club will be otherwise engaged.
Events for Over-60s will be on the 11 grass courts at the East Glos Club in Cheltenham while the younger age groups will play at the North Oxford Club.
"It's a great event for us," said East Glos Club manager Simon Harmer.

"We already have County Week here and the Cheltenham Junior Open at Easter but it will be fantastic to see this standard of veteran players on our courts."
Events go up to Over-80s and a number of East Glos players are expected to take part, including Felicity Thomas, top ranked player in GB in the Over-70s.
One famous name likely to be in action is former Davis Cup star Mark Cox, now ranked two in the country in the Over-65s.
In preparation for the event the club have re-laid five of their grass courts.
