VIOLENT Daniel Hogg landed a "spectacular punch" on another man while on parole for two earlier violent attacks.

The 25-year-old broke victim Justin Price's eye socket with the heavy blow, Gloucester Crown Court heard.

Hogg, of Sneyd Wood Road, Ruspidge, has now been recalled to prison to complete his 21-month term while he waits to be sentenced for the attack on Mr Price.

Hogg admitted causing grievous bodily harm to Justin Price last December.

Prosecutor Lisa Hennessy said that in the early hours of December 17, Mr Price was out in Cinderford with friends and had just left a pub when he encountered Hogg and two other men in the High Street.

"He had known Hogg for some years and thought he was on reasonable terms with him although not particular friends," Mrs Hennessy said.

"They got into a conversation which appears to have turned into something less friendly. But as far as Mr Price was concerned, there was nothing to indicate what was going to happen next.

"Mr Hogg struck Mr Price to his eye. It was quite a spectacular punch which broke his eye socket.

"Mr Price went to the ground and there was further kicking by Mr Hogg. It appears Mr Hogg had clearly got the wrong end of the stick about something in the conversation.

"The assault might well have continued for longer if it had not been for a special constable who was in the area. She ran over and saw the kicking going on. She recognised Mr Hogg as three men ran past her.

"Mr Price was completely unconscious on the ground. His right eye was shut and bleeding.

"He ended up in hospital and had to have quite a complex operation to repair his eye socket. He has made a pretty good recovery."

Judge Jamie Tabor QC heard that as a result of the offence, Hogg had been recalled to prison to serve out the 21-month sentence he received at the crown court in December 2010.

That had been imposed for breaking a man's jaw in a street confrontation in Cinderford in August 2010 and assaulting another man in King's Square, Gloucester, in December that year.

Judge Tabor agreed requested a pre-sentence report on Hogg but said he was not making any promises about the kind of sentence he would impose.

Hogg had initially denied the charge and a jury panel had been assembled to try him. Mr Price was at court ready to give evidence.

After Hogg changed his plea to guilty at the last minute, the judge called Mr Price into court and asked him how his face was.

Pointing to the area of his right cheek, Mr Price said it was still numb from the side of his nose to the right side of his eye.

Judge Tabor told Hogg he would sentence him in two weeks' time.

“Why can't vermin like this just be put down? No one is going to miss him and he is clearly a waste of DNA. It would be doing society a favour to be honest.”

“I dont know any of those involved or the circumstances that surround this incident, however to those that do and offer support and rationale for this convicted thugs behaviour perhaps you should direct your support for him just before he is about to clump someone he doesnt like.”

“Here here. at least one other person on here is alot more broad minded than the rest. knowing dan well myself i can vouch that he is definitely no monster, granted he has made mistakes in the past and as for this incident dan has gone guilty but i can assure you its not all as black and white as it seems, Its amazing how only one side of the stories gets told, well everyone is entitled to there own opinion and i doubt my statement shall be liked or approved by any however some of your previous comments and name calling is uncalled for and not very mature at all, sticks and stones and all!”

“I have known Mr Hogg for several years and he is NOT scum or a hillybilly retard as some of you have stated in your posts! And Walker100, how can you justify giving somebody an 'immeadiate life term' for having a fight when there are murderers and paedophiles who have been sentenced for less than that??”

“So he's got a violent history then. Let's hope that Judge Tabor takes this into account in a couple of week's time, and puts this piece of scum away for a very long time. If Hogg feels the need to use his fists regularly, let it be on the walls of a cell.

Have to agree with the other comments - whilst not wishing a violent assault on anybody, will it take a judge to be on the receiving end before the sentences finally fit the crime, especially for repeat serious offenders, as is the case here? Except of course the judges are themselves constrained by the sentencing guidelines, so perhaps it needs an MP to be on the receiving end...???”

“The Judge said "he was not making any promises about the kind of sentence he would impose."

What the Judge should have said "You are a continuing danger to society and I impose an immediate life term".”

“...and here we go again. Somebody who has been sentenced and let out early committing yet another crime of assault. When will this country get round to giving these low-life pieces of scum, a sentence to fit the crime. In this case corporal punishment, a cell with just the basics and without all the luxuries of TV, computers etc.etc.”

“I just wish for once, when these scummy chavs are let out on license or parole, that their next inevitable victim is related to the judge or better still the judges themselves. Then we might see decent sentencing.”
