Village plants diamond trees
THE QUEEN'S diamond jubilee will be commemorated for years to come with a special woodland at the village of Hasfield.
Residents are planning to plant 400 trees to mark the monarch's 60th year on the throne, with a selection of hand-picked species that promise to bring a show of colour all year-round.
A "substantial" donation from National Grid in the region of thousands of pounds made the project possible, supplemented by fundraising through a plant and cake stall held in the village.
The hand-planted copse will occupy a one-acre site at Cornerhouse Farm. Among the species are field maple, sweet chestnut, dogwood, spindle and common oak.
