Volunteers at Barnwood Park
A group of 5 people from EDF Energy, spent most of last Thursday with Elaine Keasley of the Friends of Barnwood Arboretum, working in the Barnwood Park.
While some were digging and clearing an area by the Church Lane entrance ready for 1,000 bluebell bulbs to be planted later, the others were planting 1,000 crocus bubs, 500 yellow and 500 white to go with the 500 mauve ones planted last year. The team were there as part of the EDF Energy Helping Hands programme, which is the company's volunteering programme that allows employees to volunteer in communities within company time. They can volunteer as part of team or as an individual or both.
Clare Dunmur, IT Projects Delivery Manager says 'We care for our communities and are passionate about supporting them. This is why we encourage all of our employees to get involved in supporting our community investment programmes during company time. In 2010, more than 1,700 volunteer days were used by employees through Helping Hands, many of them contributing to projects that support the delivery of our Sustainability Commitments.
