A TEAM effort will bring a bit of colour to the gateway of Stroud near Brewery Bridge.

The temporary barricades which shut the access to Wallbridge have been replaced with smart new planters.

The work has been a combined effort of Stroud Town Council, Cotswold Canal Trust, the Canal Project and Stroud College.

Stroud Town Council's green spaces team helped assemble some of the planters provided by the county council highways department and also donated plants, soil and mulch.

Then a team of Stroud College access to employment students and canal trust volunteers planted them with plants provided by the town council.

"It was a combined effort from the town council and county council supplying the materials, the Cotswold Canal Trust supplying shelter and tea and the Canal Project with Stroud College providing the labour," said Jim Mathison, green spaces manager.

"We think the end result improves one of the gateways to the town for residents and visitors and will all help towards Stroud in Bloom's efforts in next year's competition."
