Glanville relishes new role at Cinderford
PETE GLANVILLE may be taking a step back from the coaching
side at Cinderford, but he is confident the men taking over can
-

Cinderford's director of rugby operations Pete Glanville with new recruits Rob Fidler, TIm Stevenson, Neil Bayliss
build on the club's promotion to National Two.
Glanville's new title at the club is director of rugby
operations, overseeing the goings on at Dockham Road both on
and off the field, while Mark Cornwell, Phil Greenaway and Andy
Deacon take care of the playing side.
His aim for this season is to see the club consolidate its
position in National Two, and hasn't ruled out a push for
National One status in the near future.
The former Gloucester flanker points to the host of signings
through the door over the summer - including Rob Fidler, who
turned out for Bath firsts last season, Tim Stevenson and Neil
Bayliss, plus ex-Gloucester lock Richard Ward's appointment as
second team manager, as evidence of this.
Add to those Paul and Dave Knight, ex-Mounts Bay back-row
Adam Nicholls, Gloucestershire back-row Adam Nicholls,
scrum-half Pat O'Grady and lock Chris Jones and it's clear the
club is refusing to settle for just staying in the division
this season.
Glanville said: "We will approach every game next season
like our lives depended on it.
"That's the only way you can do it when you've gone up a
league.
"The signings we've made show that we want not only to stay
in this league but push up the table.
"There's no reason why we can't be pushing for National
One."
Glanville refused to commit to a definite plan for the next
few years at Cinderford, just saying that the club will look to
continue to build and develop, and that his new position gives
him the key role in that.
His decision to take a back seat where the rugby is
concerned is born out of the coaching talent at the club's
disposal.
"I will still be out on the training field when I can, he
said.
"But we've had a look at it and decided to use the skills at
our disposal.
"Mark Cornwell and Phil Greenaway are coaching alongside
some of the best in the country on a daily basis - including
Dean Ryan, Bryan Redpath and Denis Betts.
"It just makes more sense for them to be in control of that
side of it.
"But we will sit down very often and talk about where the
club is going, what type of rugby we want to play and how we
will achieve that.
"We've brought this club to National Two and we want to take
it further."
Cinderford continue their pre-season with the visit of
Newport to Dockham Road on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
