Warning on mouth cancer from Stroud dentist
DENTISTS are backing a campaign to raise awareness of mouth cancer.
Confident Dental Care & Implant Centre in Stroud is rallying to the call of the Mouth Cancer Action Month to help check for symptoms of a disease that, without early detection, could claim 30,000 lives over the next decade.
Mouth Cancer Action Month runs throughout November and is an annual campaign organised by the British Dental Health Foundation sponsored and supported by Denplan to help raise awareness of the symptoms and those most at risk.
“As well over half the population received a dental examination in the last two years, dental teams are in the ideal position to share information about the risks and symptoms of mouth cancer with their patients,” said Dr Ala Rozwadowska.
“With this in mind we are welcoming both existing patients and new patients of Confident Dental Care & Implant Centre for a free mouth cancer screening on Wednesday afternoons throughout November (subject to availability).
“The check-up will involve a *soft tissue check as well as discussing any concerns the patient may have such as mouth ulcers that haven’t healed within three weeks, red or white patches or other unusual lumps or swellings in their mouth.”
“It is well documented that early detection saves lives,” said Dr Nigel Carter OBE, Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundation. “That is why we are extremely grateful that Confident Dental Care & Implant Centre is holding a free screening event. As latest statistics show more than 6,500 people were diagnosed with mouth cancer in 2010, it’s really important that you follow the campaign message – if in doubt, get checked out.”
