Weekend

I have a few events coming up and would love to wear a maxi dress.  Where can I find a good one?

Phase Eight does some great maxi dresses and currently has this gorgeous Cassini style available in ivy green (£120).  It is made from a heavyweight jersey fabric, which drapes and flows beautifully.  This fabulous deep green colour would look good teamed with metallic accessories, maybe a gold cuff, clutch and gold sandals.   Depending on your body shape, you might want to consider this dress from Biba at House of Fraser (£189).  This style works especially well to balance out a pear-shaped silhouette as the pleat detail adds curve to the bust area, while the cutaway shoulder helps to visually balance out the hips.   Always wear a maxi as long as possible, so that it hits the top of your foot, in order to elongate the silhouette.

Is it true that trouser suits are coming back into fashion?

Yes, it's absolutely true.  There are some gorgeous trouser suits arriving in store and they've not seen this much prominence since the mid-nineties.

This time round you will see them in many different guises, including print and brocade.  This one from Reiss is very simple and chic and as seen here looks fabulous worn with a pop of colour (Maxine Jacket, £189, Milano trousers, £110).

To add a feminine touch and lengthen the leg, wear with heels.  However, if you are long-limbed you could think about teaming yours with these fabulously on-trend metallic toe-capped brogues from Keith Scarrott Shoes, Cheltenham, which add a real wow factor (£169.95).

I am just about to join a corporate graduate scheme.  I would love a stylish bag that says I

mean business, but don't want it to look too formal.  My parents have given me a budget of £250.   I would ideally like to be able to use it at

the weekends too.

Hobbs has a really strong bag collection   for autumn-winter.   I love the Cherington bag which comes in both navy and black.  The zip detailing really adds a design edge.  It is also large enough to carry files and an iPad if you need to.  It's  smart, but also has a softness to it which means it will work well with smart-casual outfits too (£229).

Alternatively, the Pippa Grab bag is a favourite  (£295).  Stocked at House of Fraser, this bag by Modalu has been named after Pippa Middleton who is often seen carrying one.  Available in several colours (this one is called shark), it  combines practicality and style.  Two deep zip-up pockets make finding things a dream.
