CHELTENHAM Town's match at Barnet this afternoon will feel more like a home game for striker Wesley Thomas.

The five-goal hitman lives just down the road from the North London club and a host of friends and family will be in attendance to support him today, but he does not enjoy playing at the home of Bees due to the infamous sloping Underhill pitch.

The uneven surface was given the all-clear in 2006, but it is the maximum slope deemed acceptable by the Football League.

"I live 10 minutes from Barnet and I have played there for Dagenham, but I don't enjoy the pitch," Thomas said.

"I have a lot of people coming to watch and we have got to go there, do as well as we can and get the win."

Thomas joined Cheltenham from Dagenham and Redbridge for a nominal fee during the summer and he is enjoying the more laid back way of life at his new club.

"I don't really go into town that much but it's a nice place and a quiet area," he said.

"London is completely different with everyone rushing around, but it's more relaxed here and I am enjoying it."

Thomas was voted by fans as Cheltenham's Player of the Month for August after a ground-breaking start as he became the first Robins player to score in his first four League appearances.

"It's good that the fans appreciate what I have done so far and I want to keep doing it now," Thomas said.

"I have been happy with my performances and the fans have been cheering my name quite a lot so I'm happy about that."

Thomas admits he could not have wished for a better start at Cheltenham.

"I feel I'm going to score in every single game and my confidence is high so hopefully I can keep it going – I have never had a start like this," he said.

"Everyone talks about strikers getting 20 goals or more. I only have 15 to go before I get there so it's been great."

Thomas' header against Burton last week was set up by a lovely cross from substitute Shaun Jeffers and Thomas was the provider for Jeffers' second goal for the Robins in the 6-4 defeat by Rotherham United a week earlier.

Coventry City teenager Jeffers won his first cap for the England Under-19s at Crewe on Thursday night and Thomas has tipped him to make an impact at a higher level.

"Shaun is very quick and he has a good future ahead of him, and if he carries on doing what he has been it won't be long before he breaks into the Coventry team," Thomas said.
