Wincanton workers in Gloucester face last day

Hundreds of staff at the Gloucester-based Wincanton distribution centre are arriving at work for the last time today.

After weeks of talks and discussions today marks the end of the road for the Brockworth chilled food distribution centre on the Gloucester Business Park.

An estimated 420 staff were notified officially in writing back at the start of April but first heard the news of the closure when the company made it public on November 27.

In February the transport company issued a profits warning for this year describing a sharp slowdown in UK and Irish markets putting the brakes on its business.

    “We have been through redundancies in our Cheltenham office and I managed to keep my post by being able to move to the Bristol office, so I would like to wish all those at Wincanton who don't have anything to move onto, the best of luck for the future and I hope that they all manage to find new jobs.”
