GlOUCESTERSHIRE Women were hammered 133-82 by Glamorgan in their county match at Ardagh Bowling Club.

Despite the defeat they did manage to win two rinks out of the six, with president Pat Marsh (Arrow Ladies) holding up the side along with Maggie Edney (Cirencester), Barbara Bird (Redland Green) and Anne Beaven (Dowty).

The Gloucestershire rink held the upper hand throughout against Anne Smith, powering into a 7-1 lead and then 10-5 by halfway.

Seven shots over eight ends took them into a 17-9 lead and they went on to win 18-14.

Joyce Wilkins (Tetbury), Pat Stiley (Cheltenham Spa), Julia Stannard (Nailsworth) and Lyn Hamer (Ardagh) opened up a 9-3 lead over Ann Dainton after ten ends.

They were never troubled as they went seven shots ahead after 15 ends.

The gap was narrowed late on and from 15-10 up they went on to win 18-14.

June Gardiner (Falcon), Eirona Carpenter (Yate), Kath Sealey (Bristol Greenbank) and Val Major (Churchdown) looked to be heading for a large-margin defeat against Carol Diffard.

They were 10-3 down after five ends and by halfway the gap was eight ends.

They pulled the score back to 20-15 and went on to lose 23-15.

Margaret Powell (Cotswold), Elisabeth Davis (City and Port of Bristol), Doreen Thomas (Lydney) and Christine Magee (EDF Energy) found it an uphill struggle against Eileys Davies as they trailed 10-6 at halfway before going behind 17-10 five ends later.

Adding a further three shots in the final stages, they bowed out 24-13.

Joan Powell (Page Ladies), Mary Clark (Churchdown), Carolan Shirtliff (Falcon) and Margaret McColl (Cheltenham Spa) were 7-1 down after five ends against Myra Newman.

By halfway the margin was eight shots and the gap widened late on as they suffered a 23-10 defeat.

Jan Hunt (Ardagh), Heather Fryer (Page Ladies), Margaret Cadle (Sir Thomas Rich's) and Iris Hart (Frampton) had a torrid time in their match against Ann Brimble.

They went from 6-3 down to lose ten shots in the next five ends without scoring.

By the 15th end the score stood at 26-5 and they eventually lost 35-8.
