SHORTWOOD United have signed experienced striker Jody Bevan as a player-coach ahead of their first season of Southern League football.

Bevan will combine his striking talents, which have seen him net 246 goals in senior football, with a role on John Evans' coaching staff at Meadowbank.

Hailing the signing of the veteran target man, Evans said that Bevan will give his side vital on-field experience as well as some Southern League savvy.

"Jody's experience will add something to the squad," Evans said.

"He is looking to take his first steps in management and coaching and I have been looking to add to my staff.

"His Southern League experience and knowledge will be of great benefit to the club both on and off the field."

Gloucester-born Bevan has the honour of representing four of the county's senior clubs.

After starting out with Cirencester Town Bevan joined home-town club Gloucester City and then Cinderford Town.

He spent the last three seasons with Cirencester Town, helping them to promotion into the Southern League Premier in 2009.
