YMCA Cheltenham to help homeless with new project

PLANS to help deal with Cheltenham's growing homeless project is still £500,000 short of coming to fruition.

But YMCA Cheltenham is determined reach its target to build a new housing project in the town - and is starting its fundraising in earnest.

The organisation said the number of people in the town being accepted as homeless rose by 109 per cent between 2010 and 2011.

It rose by a further 78 per cent last year.The charity is now revamping its services, after demolishing its site in Vittoria Walk last December, which has stood there since 1955.

And it has starting a new redevelopment project in the centre of the town, which will provide housing for 98 people, instead of the previous 56.
