THE South Cerney Triathlon featured an in-form Steve Yates of Cirencester.

He battled choppy waters and ferocious headwinds to finish a close second and Male Vet winner.

Laurence Giffin competed well to finish 20th and another sterling performance by Caroline Crawford saw her third lady home.

The Swindon Parkrun 5K trails are used by Mike Firth as triathlon warm-ups, but he missed his PB in his latest outing. Barb Thomas was more successful, achieving a PB and finishing first LV55.

The Brewer Games were held at the Prince of Wales Stadium in Cheltenham, a favourite track of Paul Barlow.

He finished fourth in 2.54.9 in the 1000m to claim a number one national age group spot.

Barlow also holds the number one spot in the 2000m but does confess that these are unusual distances.

He competed in the 1500m at the Kip Keino Stadium in Bristol, finishing fourth in 4.29.7, and in the 800m he broke his PB by 2.6 seconds to finish in 2:18.1.

The Oaksey 10K road race in Wiltshire was held for the first time and could become an annual event.

It comprised a rural loop with a couple of hills that proved more testing than expected.

Six Cirencester runners competed, with an excellent fourth overall and first lady prize for Nicola Denning.

At the Chippenham Five Mile road race Barb Thomas finished 73rd in 45.00.

The race was won by Simon Nott of Calne Running Club in 26.40.

A very competitive 3K for younger runners was held at Fairford.

Ellen Foster of the Cirencester AC juniors ran an excellent race to win the Under-12 girls crown.
