against five other hopefuls to prove her worth in the "Best Newcomer
Category" at the Make-up Show Live 2012 in London. At the age of 22 she
runs her own mobile beauty therapy business Phoenix Home Spa and Beauty and
works as a freelance make up artist.
This competition required competitors
to create two looks around the theme "dusk 'till dawn". Using her
creative flair and imaginative ideas Kerry created a look based on the desert.
The first look "dusk" represented the desert in a period of drought,
but with storm clouds building in the background. The second look
"dawn" represented the desert after the rains and was full of colour
and brightness. The competitors had between 15 minutes and one hour to
create each look and get their models to the runway. Confidence creating a look
under pressure was key to success!
Kerry entered the competition so she
could unleash her creativity. Being mainly self-taught Kerry is used to working
outside of her comfort zone and willing to try anything new achieve the desired
effect. The judges (Eryca Freemantle and Sola
Oyebade – Mr Mahogany) enjoyed the expressive side of the look and praised her
ability to push boundaries and create a bold look. Kerry had the following
response after her win "I am incredibly proud of this achievement. I
thoroughly enjoy being creative and it means a lot to me that others appreciate
my work! This is the platform for me to push forward my career as a make-up
artist and it was great to learn from the other competitors involved too."
Kerry started out her make-up career
working for Clinique on the Boots makeup counter in Torquay. It was in there a
passion for make-up was ignited and her natural flair became evident. Over the
next six years Kerry experimented with all types of make-up and became the go
to girl for friends and family. She took time to complete her A Levels and her
Geography Degree but never lost sight of her dream to become a top make-up
artist.
Since graduating Kerry undertook an
ITEC Beauty Specialist qualification at The Cotswold Academy of Health and
Beauty in Cirencester. This enabled her to enter the competition and further
develop her self-taught skills. Kerry is currently working hard to make it to
the top and has recently had her work published in the August issue of Cotswold
Style. She is available for bridal, editorial and fashion make-up working under
the name of her business, Helena Faith CMD. To see more of her work check out her websites:

“Has anyone seen that episode of the Simpsons where Homer invents a method of applying make up using a shotgun...?”
