Forest Green Rovers Under-14s have won the County Cup final, with a late goal sealing the victory as penalties approached.

Both teams were unbeaten this season so something had to give in the final, held at Gloucestershire FA Headquarters in Almondsbury, Bristol.

Within two minutes, uncharacteristically, Forest Green gave the ball away at the back which lead to AEK Boco taking a 1-0 lead.

This was not the start Rovers were hoping for.

Forest Green regrouped and started settling into their game.

Charlie Simmonds went inches wide with a shot from the edge of the box. A tactical change saw the introduction of Alana Taylor, which seemed to unsettle AEK Boco.

And no-nonsense tackling by Lydia Neal and Gabby Davies in midfield kept the pressure on.

Taylor’s high work rate paid off when her thunderous shot put Forest Green Rovers on equal terms five minutes before the break.

The tempo in the second half was raised further as both teams wanted victory.

Cally Lewis, Nico Caton, Rosie Toogood and Kristy Simonds held firm to try to stop AEK Boco getting through.

When Boco tried the long ball through, Jamie Pugh in goal was there to gather and stifle out any threat.

Sammy Bussey and Sam Chamberlayne were ever the threat down the wings and Natalie Webb made some strong forward runs.

Shannon White and Jasmine Ford battled hard upfront.

The game looked locked at 1-1 and destined for penalties with two minutes to go.

But a tactical change in goal and the introduction of Chloe Haywood was to change the game.

Taylor in goal made two great saves to keep Boco out and with the clock running down, one last push forward by Forest Green saw Haywood receive the ball in the box and her pass released Sammy Bussey to score to win the game at the death.
