GOTHERINGTON edged a thrilling encounter with a late winner to thwart a brave fightback from the Cheetahs in the Cheltenham Youth League.

Both teams defied a biting wind and a heavy pitch to produce an exciting and open game of football in which chances fell to either side.

Cheetahs were slow out the blocks in the first half and only some excellent saves from goalkeeper Ben Lawrence kept Gotherington at bay.

Cheetahs had their own chances though with Jamie King and Jay Morris going close but the home side took the lead, taking advantage of some sloppy defending to establish a 2-0 lead at half-time.

The second half was a thrilling affair, with Hal Richards quickly reducing the deficit with a calm finish past the Gotherington goalkeeper.

However Gotherington re-established their two-goal lead with a good finish, and only a superb save from Lawrence denined a Cheetah's header.

Leading scorer Vittorio Rogazzo then took centre stage with two quality finishes to make it 3-3, his first from a superb through ball from Richards and the second after good work from substitute Drew Lipscombe to set up a tense finish.

There was one final twist in the match however when Lawrence, who had been faultless until then, struggled to keep a hold of the ball in the difficult conditions and his dropped catch fell to the feet of a Gotherington player who finished with an open goal to make it 4-3.

Leckhampton Rovers Cheetahs: Ben Lawrence, Joseph Rowsell, Liam Stockton, Patrick Moares, Jack Mustoe, Harry Locke, Jay Morris, Matthew Gilchrist, Hal Richards, Jamie King, Vittorio Rogazzo, Adam Chappell, Elliot Hall, Drew Lipscombe.
