The event was staged around the sports fields of Westonbirt School.

Despite the chilly weather, all the children enjoyed the races, with the Under-Eights and Under-Nines racing 1,500m and the Under-10s and Under-11s racing 2,200m.

The children were helped by staff and parents who ran as 'hares' and 'tortoises' ensuring that every child knew which way to go and that none were left behind.

Four course records were broken on the day, including Rose Hill Westonbirt's own Archie Williams, who achieved a time of 9.26 in the Under-10 boys' race.

There were other stand-out performances by Rose Hill Westonbirt and included Jack York, who came fourth in the Under-Eight boys' from 46 runners, and in the Under-10 girls' race Rachel Hatherell came 11th and Millie Porter 14th out of 82.

Sports teachers Cheryl Clifton said: "I think the Olympic Legacy has definitely been kept alive. It's really inspiring for children to take part in an event of this nature and we already have bookings for next year which is great news".
