SOUTHSIDE extended their lead at the top of the Under-16s Division Two with a 3-0 win over the bottom side.

The majority of play in the first half seemed to be down the Southside left, where Scott Adams tried to get forward at every opportunity.

Tom Witcomb also cut in from the left, beating two defenders and forcing a shot from close range that went in off a combination of the post and goalkeeper to give the visitors the lead.

George Atkinson's strength on the ball created a couple of decent opportunities before another good bit of individual play from Witcomb on the edge of the box allowed him to get in a powerful shot which the keeper somehow fumbled into the net to increase Southside's lead at half time.

As the game got more stretched in the second half Southside had chances on the counter-attack, and it was the pace of Adams that created the third goal from one of these.

Once again weaving past several players and getting to the byline, he found the on-rushing James Oddy with a short pass and the midfielder converted from close range to put the game safe.

Abbeymead continued to press forward towards the end but Southside's strong defence kept them at bay.

This was another solid performance from Southside which stretched their lead to six points at the top of Division Two in the Cheltenham Youth League.
