Youngsport: Success for Gloucester City Swimmers at county championships
GLOUCESTER City Swimmers impressed at the county championships, with a string of lifetime bests, county records and gold medals.
The contest at the GL1 leisure centre kicked off with the 800m and 1500m free distance events.
Gloucester City Swimming Club had ten girls competing in the 800m event, 32 lengths of the pool.
Ruby Forbes, 11, Tess Hepburn, 12, Laura McPeake, 12, Issy Hewson-Barsellotti, 12, Abbie Giles, 12, Bethan Blakelock, 13, Aimee Maiden, 13, Megan Hartery, 14, Ashling Keeble, 14 and Sophie Hall, 14, all swam lifetime best times in this event.

Hall dominated the fastest heat, winning gold in a personal best time of nine minutes 4.66 seconds setting a new age group county record.
Hall was also crowned junior and overall county champion for this event at just 14.
Giles won gold in a time of 10.44.83 and Blakelock was rewarded with bronze in a time 10.03.41
On the second weekend it was the turn of the boys in the 1500m event. The Gloucester club had eight boys up for the challenge of 60 lengths of the Barton pool.
Adam Hall, 11, Chris Malone, 12 , Matthew Munden, 13, Alex Seymour, 13, Ben Sarachi, 13, Craig Munden, 15, Jordan Lee, 15, and Sam Gaskins, 17, all swam huge personal best times in this gruelling event.
Craig Munden was on blistering form as he clinched gold and a new county age group record in a time of 16.26.72.
He was also crowned the junior and overall county champion as the quickest 1500m freestyler.
Not to be outshone, younger brother Matthew Munden won gold setting a new age group county record of 17.36.90. Seymour won silver in a time of 17.54.55.
Malone won gold setting a new age group county record of 18.00.28 while Hall won gold at his first attempt at this distance.
Gaskins and Lee were rewarded with a silver and bronze medal respectively.
GCSC swimmers won a combined total of six gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the distance championships in addition to claiming both the girls 800m and boys 1500m overall County Championship titles. The County Championships continue at GL1 during February and March.
