WEDDING bells could be ringing sooner rather than later for Zara Phillips.

The royal and her husband-to-be Mike Tindall, who live in Cheltenham, are hoping to set a date for their big day in May.

The possible wedding date will come just a month after her cousin, Prince William, ties the knot.

According to reports, the bride has chosen May so the celebrations will not clash with her grandfather Prince Philip's 90th birthday in June.

Kate Middleton's and Prince William's wedding date was set for April 29.

Zara, 29, and Gloucester Rugby ace Mike, 32, are expected to marry in a relatively small ceremony at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

The couple were engaged in December when Mike proposed at the couple's home.

In a statement, he said: "I am delighted Zara has agreed to marry me. We are both very excited about the next stage of our lives together."

His bride-to-be added: "I was really shocked when Mike proposed, but I am very happy."

Zara and Mike met during England's Rugby World Cup-winning campaign in Australia in 2003.

Zara was said to have wanted the wedding in May so both she and Prince William could attend the Duke of Edinburgh's birthday celebrations with their spouses on June 10.

Prince William and Kate Middleton, who announced their engagement a month before Zara and Mike, will marry in a grand ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

“Well, Raymond, I understand your point of view, but Princess Anne's children are not a burden on the taxpayer. They are not royal and receive no taxpayer money.”
