Zara Phillips brands Mike Tindall 'an idiot' for buying Cheltenham Festival Gold Cup contender horse
ZARA Phillips branded her rugby star husband Mike Tindall "an idiot" for spending £12,000 on a racehorse he knew nothing about.
However, the royal may have to eat her words as Monbeg Dude has emerged as a surprise contender for the £550,000 Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival on Friday.

Gloucester Rugby player Mike unexpectedly won an auction for the horse, which he owns with current and former teammates James Simpson-Daniel and Nicky Robinson, after jokingly making a bid.
But the impulse buy could turn out to be a money-spinner as Monbeg Dude is almost certain to line-up in the showpiece race and is 66-1 to win, following three recent big successes including the Welsh Grand National in January.

Trainer Michael Scudamore said the horse has a chance of winning if the favourites fail to perform.
Zara and Mike, who live together at Gatcombe Park estate near Minchinhampton, are expected to cheer on Monbeg Dude from the stands at Cheltenham Racecourse along with the horse's fellow owners.
