This ballet is a Beauty
THE Russian State Ballet Company and Opera House has put on a fairytale production of Sleeping Beauty.
Aurora, the princess, danced with lightness and grace and in particular performed the Rose Adage with a stunning arabesque penchee and a whole series of dazzling pose tours.
Stanislav Kultin played the Prince Desire with verve and I was pleased with his well-executed leaps and masterly partnering of the young princess.
At their wedding celebrations, we saw all the traditional characters, Red Riding Hood, Blue Birds (danced with some very accurate battements sixe) Cinderella and Puss in Boots.

The ballet ends with individual solos and a pas de deux between the Prince and Aurora.
These were of a good standard, with excellent jumps and an outburst of joy as Aurora rejoices in her happy fate.
The audience responded by giving several curtain-calls to the assembled company, and hoping that they will return again next year.
