"People go to places like Tesco and Lidl to do their shopping, while they get their toiletries and other food shopping and see a piece of pork and decide to buy it because it is convenient. My mum does it and it does wind me up.

"People buy what they pay for. If you look at the labels of these supermarket products you will see the bit where it says other, in the ingredients list, but do we actually know what that other is?"

Since the scandal broke, Iceland, Aldi, Tesco, Asda withdrew products for testing positive for horse DNA.

Ben said people's shopping habits would return to normal but people still needed to support local butchers.

"After a few months, you see, people will start buying these products again.

If we raise awareness we all need to be in it together, farmers and butchers. I want to be a butcher for the rest of my life so we need the custom," he said.

“One national supermarket chain sells sausages at £2 for 50. That works out at 32 pence for a pound of meat.

With that 32 pence the grower, producer, transporter and seller have all made a profit.

What on earth does anyone think is in those sausages?”
