Top coroner praises new court facility
DIGNITARIES gathered to mark the opening of Gloucestershire's new Coroner's Court this week.
Around 30 of the county's great and good gathered at the centre, in Corinium Avenue, Gloucester, which includes a courthouse and mortuary.

Judge Peter Thornton, chief coroner of England and Wales, was on hand to unveil a plaque commemorating the opening of the new facility – the first of its kind in the UK.
He congratulated the county council on having the "vision and good sense" to put together the courtroom, offices and mortuary in one place.

"It is a good public service project, an outstanding one and it clearly works well," he said.
The council says housing all the facilities in one place will save public money.

“How much did this self-serving, pat on the back, "opening" ceremony cost? Taking into account it's actually been open for some time.
Could a specialist coroners court not have been established in any one of the other courts that have been closed down and now lie redundant and empty such as Coleford or Cirencester, or Stroud when it is inevitably closed? Or maybe even at a certain building in Waterwells which seems under-utilised despite it's massive cost.”
