About 10.8million people are saving their pennies by sticking to destinations in Britain, and many of them will be coming to the county.
But motorists can breathe a sigh of relief because the A40 roadworks between Highnam and Over are suspended.
Forest of Dean tourism officer Nicola Greaves said: "It's excellent news and will really help tourism in the area."
The work has stopped until Tuesday to allow holiday makers to reach their destination without facing long delays.
A number of tourist destinations are delighted.
Adam Henson, Owner of Cotswold Farm Park in Cheltenham said: "We are expecting a fantastic weekend. August is always busy, with lots of people enjoying the last weeks of their holidays.
"We now have a lot of undercover facilities here and so people can still see the animals even if it rains. Some are still giving birth or we are bottle feeding, so there is lots to see and do."
Gloucester Cathedral has seen a huge rise in tourism since some of the Harry Potter films were shot there, and it expects this weekend to be no different.
Chapter Steward, Mark Beckett said: "We are hoping it is going to be a busy weekend but it will depend on the weather. We have nothing special on but it should be one of our busiest times of year."
In the West, congestion is expected on the M4 and M5 with drivers being advised to set off early on journeys
However, the weather won't bring the bright sunshine that everyone is hoping for.
A Met Office spokeswoman said: "Today will be a nice day with temperatures up to 18C, but tonight there will be some rain around over night and tomorrow will be a mixed day with sunshine and showers.
"Monday will be quite dry with outbreaks of rain and temperatures up to 22C, so today and Monday will definitely see the best of the weather."
