SEVEN people were rescued from a lift by firefighters on Saturday.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service attended the property in Church Road, Leckhampton, shortly after 4pm.

One fire engine from Cheltenham attended with a crew of five firefighters.

People trapped in the lift were able to escape after the firefighters managed to lower the carriage to the floor below it.

Crews stayed at the scene for 45 minutes.

One of the people involved in the incident, who did not wish to be named, praised the rescuers.

He said: "The firefighters worked quickly and professionally to release us."
