Fire crews rescue man from flat blaze

FIRE crews had to rescue a man from a blaze in a Cheltenham flat on Saturday night.

A team of 16 firefighters were called out to the incident in Princess Elizabeth Way.

The minor blaze had started in the flat at around 9.30pm.

Firefighters from three stations attended the scene to bring the flames under control.

One man was rescued from the property and escaped uninjured, as crews used breathing apparatus to enter the building.

Fire rescue crews had left the scene by around 10.15pm.

Bosses at the Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue service are now reminding residents about the free home fire safety checks. Officers will also fit smoke alarms free of charge.
