Mike Bennett, owner of Zest Fitness, also runs a martial arts centre, called MSD Evolution.
He said: "Bishop's Cleeve needs a gym, as it is growing all the time.
"Growth is a very natural thing and bringing services to the community is the way forward.
"We decided to set up a gym in Cleeve after lots of our karate members asked us to open one.
"The parents wanted a gym so they could drop off their children for classes and then go and train themselves."
The gym will come fitted with a cardiovascular suite, which includes treadmills, steppers rowing machines and elliptical trainers.
The free weights area will have a supply of benches, dumbbells, resistance areas and an area dedicated to stretching.
Plans are already in the pipeline to expand next door, according to the owner.
He said: "Although we won't have any classes at the start, we have already put the wheels in motion for expansion into the building next door.
"It will give us an extra 1,500 sq ft to accommodate spin bikes, Zumba classes, and other classes like Abs Attack."
Peter Lightfoot, chairman of Bishop's Cleeve parish council, said: "I think a gym is a really good idea from the point of view of people keeping fit.
"At the moment, the only gym in the village is at the sports centre in the school, which is only open during the evening.
"A village the size of Bishop's Cleeve can support another gym, and there must be enough people and demand there for a daytime gym.
"There will be people coming in to use our shops, and other facilities, and that can only be good for the village."
Full-time membership at the club costs £180 for six months, and £320 for 12 months.
The gym is accepting members, with free trials during January. Contact Mike at 01242 677011
