NEWENT town councillors have roundly rejected discharging planning conditions at a gipsy site in Newent.

The conditions were imposed on the site off Southend Lane by planning inspector David Baldock in December of last year.

His decision stated planning permission was allowed on the site until January 31 2012 as long as the conditions were met.

A planning application for the discharge of the conditions came up at Newent Town Council on Monday.

"This is not the easiest site in the world to examine," said Coun Peter Moore. "But I am told by neighbours that none of these conditions have been met – in particular lighting and fencing.

"It seems they have not kept to other requirements of the planning permission like the number of vehicles that can be parked on each pitch. I don't think the district council have been as energetic as they could have been in monitoring the situation."

Coun Eddie Wood, proposing that the application to discharge the conditions be refused, said: "They have not complied with these conditions."
