    “It depends what you mean by "safe". A week ago, I assume that most people would have agreed that living in the vicarage in a nice place such as Thornbury would be about a safe as you can get.

    The problem is that if you live somewhere nice, especially if it is a fairly rich area, you are at greater risk of being attacked by serious criminals who are determined to steal your nice things. They may be willing to smash their way into your home or use firearms. These are the type of attacks that you see on Crimewatch.

    If you live somewhere rougher, you are more likely to suffer a lot of lower level crime, such as car crime, noisy neighbours and mouthy yobs.”
