“Bonkim2003
The car i have is a BMW a P reg, old car but i like it, so you can work out the garage that i am refering to, when i said that it seemed a bit pricey, i was told that they could do it a bit cheaper as it was an older model,.. That being £160+vat, what the age of the car got to do with an oil change is beyond understanding,,, For less than 30min's work i would expect to pay no more than £70,. Its no wonder the country is on a downward slope, when over charging is rife. seems they want a days pay for 30min's work...”

“cheltenham20 - there must be independents who don't charge the earth. So don't go to main dealers for servicing - better still re-learn DIY car maintenance. Similarly most household equipment - running maintenance can be done by householders - learn new tricks.
Price of anything is what the guy will accept and what you can/will pay. We have got used to low prices for most tings all these years - all that will change soon and we will all have to cut out non-essentials.”
“IS IT TIME FOR A NEW £1
A visit from any of the domestic services will set you back
£100+ just to knock your door, Heaven help you if you go to
a Garage, It would appear that its not possible for any Garage
to do a job under £200, If they pump your tyre up, that will
set you back £100+...Thought i would ask a garage to do an
oil change ( done it myself in the end) garage Quote £180+vat,
A job that takes all of 30min or less, £20 oil +£7. filter...
Took my petrol grass strimmer for a service, cost me more than
i paid for it,
I think that if we had a New £1, made up with the old £1 being
called the new penny , therefor making 100 of these old pounds
= to one new £1,.. then when the rip off merchants come knocking
at your door, and they ask for £1.20 it wont seem quite so bad...
Just a thought...”
