“If you were going to be killed, wouldn't you rather be stunned first, so that you didn't experience the pain and fear of having your throat cut and bleeding to death? As to the blood being unhygienic - why is blood more unhygienic than meat?”

“People are so ignorant. If they really knew how their meat was killed, they would become vegetarians. Everything from captive bolt pistol, to water baths, to gassing... and that doesn't even begin to consider than ample malpractices that take place in the industry (most as a means to cut costs so people can buy their 3 for £6 chicken and like!). Before anyone starts accusing of being halal unethical, I would highly recommend they take a good look at how their meat is slaughtered (a few google/youtube searches would be a start!)”

“We are not a muslim country and therefore should not accept foreign practises, especially when they are abhorrent to most of the indigenous population. If you want to still retain your way of life and this includes sharia law, you should stay in your own country where it is acceptable.”

“Halal slaughter methods do not adhere to the rulings put on this country for the slaughtering of animals. It is not a process that the British people and those that are opposed to this barbaric practice, and the turning of a blind eye to something that does not follow the rules, should email your MP and voice your concerns. Halal meat is being used in school meals, old people's homes and in the large supermarkets too. We should be informed on the labelling and then I for one wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!”

“Bratfurd... I happen to agree that there are short-cuts made in almost every aspect of slaughter and none of it is good for the welfare of the animals, but..... halal slaughter does not even allow for the animal to be 'out of it' before it is killed. To slit an animal's throat whilst it is still alive and not allow it to be stunned because it won't hear the prayer that is said.... is beyond ridiculous and hopefully it will be banned from happening in England shortly as it does not adhere to the rules of the country. It should be banned and all imports of halal meat should be banned too otherwise we are just supporting this barbaric practice.”

“In light of the above comments, i also presume that Jewish Kosher meat should also be outlawed and banned in England, as it too uses the knife-to-throat method of slaughtering. Is that also not 'abhorrent', 'ridiculous' and 'barbaric'?
Regarding labeling of meat; it's not exactly the fault of the Muslim people, that supermarkets etc are using halal meat. Muslim people would not buy meat from large chains anyway unless they knew it was from a halal source. If you had a problem with the way meat is sold, you should raise it with the relevant authorities/shops.”

“Legal Eagle... the short answer is 'Yes!'. Any methods that do not adhere to the rules should be banned. Why should any group of people be given special allowances to break the rules? That in itself is ridiculous!
Labelling - yes I agree it is not the fault of the muslims, and I wasn't aware that anyone had blamed them for it. In the same way that muslims will only eat halal meat, the rest of us should ensure that we only eat meat that has been slaughtered in a manner that meets our rules and regulations. Local meat would be even better... long live the local butchers! No more cheap imports from anywhere, we have just seen how they have been putting horse meat into things. Simple advice.. only buy cuts of meat the your recognise, buy locally from a trusted source and make sure it is not halal or any of the other barbaric methods either!”

“Halal slaughter is barbaric and this is a civilised country, it should be illegal. End of. If you want to believe that a religion dictates to you what to eat and how what is "dirty" that is your problem you need to get over that, organised religion is making an idiot of you.”
