“never a truer word has been spoken. the MPS have been cheating us all for years,as with the exenses scandal and at the same time the disabled are forced off their benefits,by a firm which is,itself being investigated for fraud and is set to gain £13`500 per victim, then to verify their action ,the media is spoonfed lots of stories of benefit fraud and it is assumed that ALL on benefits are fraudsters,a bit like saying ALL MPS are expenses cheats”

“You got that right Chris.
ALL MPs aren't expenses cheats, and ALL benefit claimants aren't fraudsters.
But an awful lot of both are. So the media makes the generalisation, and that's how things eventually get changed. We shouldn't lambast the media for bringing things to greater attention.
Disabled people aren't being forced off benefits. They're being reassessed to make sure that people aren't cheating the system, just as all benefit claimants should be reassessed regularly. Just because disability is an emotive issue, it's perceived that we shouldn't 'tinker' with the benefit support system. Such a perception is pathetic and probably prejudicial. If someone is genuinely unable to support themselves through work, then the benefits system will provide. But if someone is on disability benefit just because they have a disability, then that is just plain wrong. There are plenty of disabled people who work, and plenty more who could do so. It is the public at large and particularly employers who are the key here. Many are reluctant to take on people with disabilities, even as unpaid volunteers. This mindset needs to change.”
“Is it just me who thinks that MP's should be demonstrating leadership by reforming their own, extremely generous, pension arrangements before expecting others such as doctors to accept "dilution" of their schemes?
If they were to mirror most of the private sector and replace the MP's final salary scheme with a defined contribution scheme it would demonstrate to all that they practice what they preach!”
