Vienna Festival Ballet: Sleeping Beauty

It may be called Sleeping Beauty, but there's unlikely to be much slumbering in the aisles as the Vienna Festival Ballet stages its version of the tale. For anyone who snoozed through their bedtime stories as a child, it's the tale of Aurora, the beautiful princess whose parents made a disastrous oversight while drawing up the invite list for her christening. Even worse, the snubbed guest turned out to be a fairy, who curses Aurora, dooming the girl to celebrate her sixteenth birthday with an almighty nap. With a score by Tchaikovsky, it's an obvious fit for the Vienna Festival Ballet, which, under the guidance of founder Peter Mallek, has made it its mission to bring the classics to as wide an audience as possible, spending eight months of the year on the road. It's likely that this particular production will find favour with dance lovers (and novices) across the UK.
