I am a local author and member of the Montpelier Writing Group. I am organising a programme of fringe events at the Daffodil restaurant and Strand pub. I am therefore asking for "bids" from local writers to put on presentations.
Use of the venue will be free, but no expenses will be paid and no charge is to be made. The management of the Daffodil and Strand will be in charge of publicising the programme over-all. Each presenter will also be encouraged to do their own publicity. A stall will be set up at the Strand for local authors to display their books for sale.
I will be touting for volunteers to help with the running, organisation and administration of the events. If you are willing to help out between now and the 6th October, please let me know. If you'd be willing to help as a steward/usher/stall-keeper at the Strand while vents are in progress, please let me know.
I have definite proposals from the following people and have provisionally allocated them slots
Poetry:
Phil Kerby
Graham Burchell
Brenda Read-Brown [Poet Laureate of Gloucestershire]
Fergus McGonigal
Richard Hensley & friends
Susan Utting & friends
Mikki Byrne
Jean-Marie Avril
Jason van Bloom: all the way from Estonia!
Marilyn Timms
Jennie Farley
Geoff Parker: presentation of his yet to be published novel and associated card/board game.
Richard Hart: presentation of his yet to be published novel.
Stephen Lovatt: presentation of his published non-fiction book "New Skins for Old Wine."
The meaning of Life.
Why be good?
What's the good of Democracy?
Sex. Love and Friendship.
Pauline Kierman: three talks:
'CREATING COMPELLING CHARACTERS
FOR FICTION WRITERS'
'SCREENWRITING TECHNIQUES FOR NOVELISTS
AND SHORT STORY WRITERS'
'SHAKESPEARE'S WOMEN'
Sue Johnson: writing workshop
"Creative Alchemy - words into stories."
I hope the above mix will stimulate other people come forward with ideas. I would like to see some more prose writing: both fiction and non-fiction.
The material I already have is enough for two or three days, at one venue, I'd say. We have two rooms at the Strand and a maximum of nine days, so there is room for much more. Please keep the ideas rolling in!

“Saturday 13 October 6-7pm
HIDDEN PATHS... AND MORE at the STRAND
A rich interweaving of poetry and music to take you along life's hidden paths - a journey with the landscape, hardship, spirituality and healing.
Specially composed acoustic music highlights the mood and meaning of the poetry to communicate, inspire and uplift. (Musician Stevie Gilmore and poet Katherine T Owen reprise the successful show from the Swindon Literature Festival.)
The set will also include readings from the book It's OK to Believe, Moving From Head To Heart along with live music and singing.
