'No more excuses for rubbish service'
AFTER some parts of Cheltenham went for more than a month without refuse collections, it now emerges ("Council halted bin collections", Echo, 16 February) that the bin men were quite willing to go out in the snow, but that Cheltenham Borough Council stopped them.
So, either this decision was made by a council official without consulting the relevant cabinet member and the confusion brought to light by the council's chief executive last year still reigns, or the cabinet member issued this absurd instruction on the grounds that some residents would feel left out if their rubbish was not collected.
The investigation into this debacle will report back this week and we will find out which was the case. Either way, I remain worried by the Lib Dems running this council.
