COLLEGE students will be able to hold a public exhibition in Tewkesbury Town Hall without paying to hire the venue.

A town council meeting considered a request to waive the normal hire fee for the building on July 3 and 4, when Launchpad students will show off the fine furniture they have made.

The request came from town councillor and Launchpad lecturer Vernon Smith.

He said: "I think what they do is absolutely fantastic. It's unbelievable what they can do with timber."

Members feared the move might set a precedent so Councillor Chris Danter, due to become the next town mayor in May, said she would use her mayoral allowance to cover the cost of the hire fee.
