Friday, July 03, 2009, 12:22

GLOUCESTER City will face their first long trip north on the opening day of the 2009/10 BlueSquare Premier season.

David Mehew's men will travel to Southport for their first game in the second tier of non-League football.

The trip to Haig Avenue will bring back fond memories for the Tigers' faithful who made the trip north for an FA Trophy fifth round replay in 2003.

City's first home game of the new campaign will see Lancashire outfit Eastwood Town make the long trip to Cirencester on Tuesday, August 11.

The long trip to Blyth will be on Saturday, March 27, while the mammoth journey to Cumbria to face Workington will be on Saturday, January 23.

Redditch United will be the visitors on New Years day, with the Tigers fans making the short trip to Worcestershire on Boxing day.

The season concluded with the visit of Ilkeston on Saturday, April 24.
