3.04pm - Gloucestershire school announces tragic death of sixth form student

STUDENTS and teachers at Cleeve School in Cheltenham are mourning the loss of popular sixth former Laurence Taverner, 17, from Woodmancote, who died yesterday.

The school today released the following statement:

Cleeve School is saddened by the tragic death of Laurence Taverner.

Laurence was a well-liked Year 13 student, described by his friends as someone who was, 'popular, kind and one of the most polite boys in school'.

Laurence was studying for A Levels in Art, Human Biology and Film Studies.

Outside the classroom he had a keen interest in music and played bass guitar in a band.

He had a passion for art which he pursued in and outside the classroom.

Laurence was an avid basketball player and participated in school and local teams.

Headteacher, Allen McConaghie, said: "Everyone at Cleeve School is shocked and saddened by the tragic death of this well-liked student.

"Laurence was a creative young man and a talented musician and artist who was loved by his many friends. "His loss is a dreadful shock to us all. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time."
