Dom Joly to switch on town's lights

TV prankster Dom Joly is set to flick the switch at Fairford's Festive Market.

The Trigger Happy TV star, who lives at nearby Quenington, turns on the lights on Friday.

It is another coup for Fairford as he follows in the wake of Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies and satirist Rory Bremner.

Dom opened Fairford Steam Rally in August 2006 and got behind the wheel of some vintage vehicles, steering a steam engine round the main arena. He said Fairford was one of his favourite towns.

"I go there usually every other day and it's where I do most of my shopping so I'm very much looking forward to the festive market.

"I'm surprised to hear it's such a large event. I'm normally away this time of year so I haven't been before." He will be joined by Fairford Festival Queen Libby Priestman, aged 11.

The Market Place event runs from 6.30pm to 9.30pm and features street entertainment, fairground rides and hopefully a visit from Father Christmas.

This year it is more of a bumper event with 48 stalls. The Fairford Community bus, which can shuttle people from surrounding villages, can be booked on 01285 713852.
