Penny Bazaar fever comes to county

Wednesday, May 20, 2009, 10:55

Hundreds of bargain hunters queued patiently to spend a penny in Gloucestershire.

Shoppers began lining up outside Marks and Spencer stores in Cheltenham and Gloucester before 7am to choose five items on sale for just 1p.

Knickers, jewellery and sweets were some of the 20 products on sale for a penny as part of the M&S Penny Bazaar promotion.

First in the queue in Cheltenham were sisters Frances Pincott, 74, from Prestbury and Georgina Prout, 69, from Leckhampton.

Frances said: "I have been a Marks and Spencer customer for a long time. I wanted to make sure I got my place in the queue."
