Singing star Aled Jones on song in Cheltenham
Aled joined members of Gloucestershire Federation of Women's Institutes (GFWI) at its festive concert in Cheltenham yesterday.
He said: "Congratulations on your 90th birthday.
"Some of you really don't look it."
The Welsh singer's joke was taken in good spirits at Cheltenham Town Hall where he was the guest artist with the GFWI Choir.
The Christmas concert yesterday, which marked the end of the 90th anniversary year for the federation, was a sell-out.
Aled, who shot to fame as a choir boy with Walking In The Air in the early 1980s, sang a series of his own hits for the audience, backed by his band.
Then he joined what he described as "the best looking choir I have performed with all year" for rousing renditions of O Holy Night and Silent Night.
There were also traditional hymns sung by more than 75 women from the 36 institutes that make up the choir and interludes from the Premier Brass Quintet.
