LAST night we were pleased to have Paul Moriarty, Gloucester Rugby's defence coach, join us for training.

This further strengthens our partnership with Gloucester Rugby in all areas.

Last week we saw the great Nick Wood work alongside Chris Fortey and the forwards.

Former Forester Isiah Young, recently came back to the club in a defence coaching capacity, and having experienced guys like Paul Moriarty work with us will help Isiah further his trade even more.

Paul has reviewed the DVD from the Fylde game from two weeks ago, which I must admit was not one of our best performances!

But he was very enthusiastic about coming along to observe the squad in training and see what he could do, and assess us.

I will talk more about this in future columns but we are continually looking to enhance our coaching unit, and bring diversity which is always good for raising the bar.

I am a big believer in bringing in outside talent and have experienced professionals add to what we are doing, week in week out.

Last season this worked really well with Phil Vickery.

It is interesting to get other points of view and I find it always blends well with what our coaches are doing.

We have a strong unit in Dave Pointon, Lee Fortey, Paul Morris and Isiah and sessions like last night give an extra dimension to the group and freshen it up.

It is a very long National One season and you need to do this sort of thing to keep all the guys rejuvenated and open to new thoughts and ideas.

“I just feel that this is material ripe to be picked over by the spotter-come-plagiarist.”
