HAVE YOUR SAY: Garden grabbing

Yesterday, the controversial activity surfaced again at a public inquiry at Pittville Pump Room.
Developer Kingscliffe Overseas Ltd were appealing a decision to refuse plans for five houses in the back gardens of four houses in Libertus Road.
The controversial project was rejected by Cheltenham Borough Council in October last year. More than 30 residents turned out for the meeting in protest.
If the developer wins, residents fear it could open the floodgates in the town.
They are worried it will turn Cheltenham into a goldmine for companies looking to make a quick buck, with no concern for design or green spaces.
Last year it was revealed Cheltenham Borough Council received three applications every week from developers wanting to build in back gardens. National figures showed Cheltenham had three times more infill than the UK average.
Elsewhere too garden grabbing has become a hot topic among residents in villages and towns.
What do you think about garden grabbing in Gloucestershire? Should it be banned, or should homeowners be allowed to cash in on their land and provide much-needed houses in the county?
