Honda to slash workforce?

Tuesday, December 02, 2008, 11:01

Car maker Honda is looking to slash the workforce at its Swindon factory by more than a 1,200 it was claimed yesterday.

The firm has been forced to drastically cut the number of cars it makes each month as a result of the unprecedented slump in demand across the globe.

And the company has started consulting its staff about a massive programme of voluntary redundancies making it the highest profile victims of the economic crisis in the region so far.

As reported on our Business website last month the Japanese firm has announced it is to halt production at the factory for two months in the New Year.

Honda - which employs just under 5,000 people at its Swindon plant - is also cutting output by half one of its line from this week with the second production line following suit in March.
