POLICE have seized three horses found grazing in Gloucester.

Now the owners of the animals are being warned they will have to pay a hefty sum to get them back.

The gorses were found yesterday on Gavel Way near to the old Cattle Market in Gloucester.

Officers along with representatives from the City Council and a horse welfare organisation took the horses to a safe place where they will be looked after.

PC Jon Palfrey said: “We had put up notices in the area for the past few weeks to warn people that any horses found grazing illegally will be seized.

“Clearly this warning was not listened to and as a result the three horses found today have been taken away.

”I hope today’s action shows we will not tolerate those who use private land without permission and we will act to stop this.”

The owners of the horses can reclaim them but will be liable for the significant costs involved in their removal.

If you want to claim these horses you can call police on 101 quoting incident 134 of February 2.

The horses will be kept for 14 days, after this they will be re-homed.

“The owner/s should have grazed them next to the cycle path that runs from Over to Maisemore. Horses tethered unlawfully down there never get seized.

Are those horses still in the council-owned field at Hempsted Meadows, does anyone know? We haven't had an update recently.”
