Three men stole iPhones from a man and a woman in a violent robbery in Wellington Street on Sunday.

Between 2-2.30am on February 12, a 19-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were approached by three men who demanded everything the pair had to be handed over.

The man was punched and had a knife held to his throat, while the woman received a cut to her hand when she refused to hand over her phone.

The man was left with a graze to the chin and a cut lip, and an iPhone 4 in a spiral design case and an iPhone 3GS in a purple and black case were taken.

All three men were described as being black. The first man was of large build, around 5ft 6ins tall, wearing jeans and a black leather jacket. The second was described as lean, with short curly hair, a goatee beard, wearing white trousers and a light green top.

It is believed several cars passed by on Wellington Road during the incident, which could have contained people who witnessed what happened.

If you have any information, you should call the new non-emergency number 101, quoting incident 328 of February 14. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“So much for CCTV? In most other cities, potential incidents like this are spotted in advance and then followed by operatives. Surely 3 youths roaming the streets late at night with no real purpose should prompt some sort of interest ?”

“I think they should get the same sentence as Matthew and Henry Pinnell did for highway robbery!”

“What is the world coming to, violence seems to be an every day occurence these days. I can remember when you could walk around Gloucester in safety at night, or early hours as it was. Unless the courts are given the power, and use it to get tough, it is only going to get worse.”

“I'm surprised no-one has criticised the occupants of the cars 'believed' to have passed by. Someone could have dialled 999, or even took a picture of the scene.

Whether or not police should have been around, this seems like a bold crime. Are criminals less worried about being caught now?”

“If there was any possibility that the police MIGHT be around then there would be much less of these robberues.”
